I'm so excited by the fact that we are staying at Parlee Beach! Nan, well, whatever. Which way to the beach? We will find out tomorrow.
We had breakfast in our little hotel's small cafe. Home made food prepared with love. So much so that we didn't actually get away until 10:45 am. Into the heat. We had 28 degrees most of the day, which made it the warmest day since we left the Okanagan over two weeks ago.
The first part of the day was on the back roads. As it turned out, part of a designated route: the Acadian Costal Drive from which the majority of today's pictures were taken.
We stopped along the way at Pokeshaw Rock, an historic place where early settlers met and traded with First Nations people, who have lived in the area for 3,000 years. Those early settlers, going to back to the early 1700s, were primarily Irish fleeing tyrany of the British along with Acadians (17th and 18th century French settlers).
Once past the early part, we ended up riding slab, which turned out to also be part of the Acadian Trail. Lots of little towns parked on the sides of rivers and inlets. Also went over the Miramichi Bridge, which originated in 1967, and looks it. In fact, there were working on it today, which required us to wait in traffic while the lanes alternated who got to go. this has been a regulrar theme since we were in Quebec.
We have seen so many signs warning us of moose on the highways that when we finally saw one, Nan had to take a picture!
Old. And that's all there is to it.
Also old.
Pokeshaw Provincial Park.
Pokeshaw Rock, in the background.
Pokeshaw again.
Line up for traffic over 58 year old Miramichi Bridge.
Not entirely sure how I get roped into this.
