Marry Me

Day 23: Monday September 22, 2025 Antigonish, Nova Scotia. AGAIN.

Distance traveled: 371.0 km

Cumulative distance: 3549.8 km

Temperture range: 16 - 21

Maximum speed: 110 kph

We were on the road about 9:00 this morning and it was an absolutely stellar morning to be riding, which was lucky as earlier, out luck had been bad: I had a coffee failure in the room this morning by not putting the pot correctly under the drip and, as a result, we had coffee and grounds all over the kitchen counter. It is hard for us to get going without a coffee in the morning.

As we saddled up, it was already 16 degrees. The sun was coming up over St Margaret Village and casting its warmth all over the terrain. A "manual" foghorn, one which gets its horn sound from the water rolling over it, just off the coast, was groaning away but we could easily see it in the calm water with the sun pouring down on it. At the bottom of the hill where we stayed, in the village, there is a big time traffic jam of fishing vessels waiting for the next lobster season to be called out to duty.

Traffic is pleasantly light as we make our way down the east coast of Cape Breton. Not too much is open but there was the place where we picked up dinner last night however, we didn't want to stop 25 minutes after departure. We needed to make a few more kilometers before taking a break.

Lobster traps

One of the better days for motorcycle-oriented twisties.

This ferry crossing is near Englishtown on Cape Breton.  The water flow from right to left is from St. Ann's Harbour, which is fed by the North River.  You can see the ferry drifting downstream; initially, we were unsure if the water flow was the function of a river exiting into the ocean or if it was the result of tide going out. It is river water, as I discovered from the map afterwards but the flow was very strong. The ferry crosses back and forth attatched to a cable to keep the ferry between the roads.

We were not quite sure what to make of the restaurant names at this corner. These two places were adjacent to one another.

We got back to Antigonish and went straight to Sobey's. We did not pass "Go" and did not collect $200.

We stocked up on some provisions because we had on our agenda to cook Marry Me Chicken, which is basically chicken parts, soup stock, cream and we threw in a bunch of other stuff and served over fresh fettucini. It's always awkward cooking in someone else's kitchen however, we were determined that we were going to make sure everybody was fed. We have visited other friends and it was just kind of expected. We don't mind at all. It makes us feel less like "after three days guests and fish start to smell" and more like four days.
